The Siberian Tiger's scientific name is Panthera Tigris Altaica.
They live in Northern Korea China and the Amur-Ussuri region of Siberia.
The Siberian Tiger is endangered. There are about 200 left and fewer then
50 left in China. There are 8 kinds of Tigers, 3 of them being extinct
and the other 5 are endangered.
The Siberian Tiger is the largest living cat alive. The male is 9-12 ft
and weighs about 400-650lbs. The female is a bit smaller. In the winter,
these cats live in -50f. Brrrrrrrrr that's cold!!!! At that temp you'd
lose your fingers and toes and.....But the Siberian Tiger survives by growing
thicker coats. These coats are thinker then any other tiger. They also
have more fat on their sides and belly.
Siberian Tigers can eat 60lbs of food at a time, then they can go without
eating for several days. They eat wild cattle, pigs and deer. They catch
meals 1 in 10. Their sight is 6 times better then ours and they have excellent
hearing and smelling too!!
Baby Tigers are called cubs. There are usually 1-5 per litter. Cubs are
born blind. They weigh 2-3lbs when they are first born. That's small!!
They live on milk from their mother until they're 2-3 months old, then
they eat from their mothers kill. They go out on their own at 2-3 years
old.
